Breaking Out of the Gender Box

In many ways, camp is a place where you can be your best self. But even camp isn't free from the pressures and expectations often stemming from gender and gender norms. In this session, you will explore your own personal experiences with gender at camp and gain tools to express your stories with confidence and comfort. Using personal narratives, storytelling techniques, and Jewish text, you'll develop tools to facilitate a space for campers to express their fullest selves, and in turn inspire your wider camp community and culture.

Rabbi Ariella Rosen is currently serving Temple Adath Israel in Merion Station, PA, where she oversees educational programming for people of all ages and abilities. She was ordained in 2015 by the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City. Ariella was born in Baltimore, MD, grew up in West Hartford, CT, and spent over 14 summers at Camp Ramah in New England.
